Your culinary herb garden will be a valuable source

of ingredients for thekitchen and you will be rewarded
with wonderfully fragrant fresh herbs immediately
on hand for cooking and for the salad bowl.
The best way to guarantee a supply of fresh herbs is to
create your own culinary herb garden.
Good perennial herbs that will grow all year
 round are parsley, thyme, marjoram,
tarragon, chives, and winter savory. These
herbs can be grown from seed but are best
bought as young plants from garden centres
 or nurseries.
Annual herbs such as mint, sweet basil,
coriander, chevril and dill can be grown from
seeds from late March onwards.  They can be
sown
in seed compost in shallow trays under
glass, or on the windowsill or outside in
shallow drills and then thinned.
Alternatively, you can buy young plants for your culinary herb garden from garden centres or nurseries in the spring.
Some culinary herbs like sage and
rosemary need space to develop, but
most of the common herbs that we
use can be  grown in a very small plot.
Lavender, rosemary and bay are hardy
evergreen herbs that are ideal for a
small space and make a decorative
contribution to the scene.
